And the busy start to the year continues, with the team down at the White House supporting the spine racers on their journeys up the Pennine Way over the past two days.
Whilst this event was ongoing yesterday, the team was contacted by Lancashire Police just before 3 pm (14/1/24) to assist with an ongoing missing person search in the Burnley area. Our 4th callout in 3 days!)
Our duty team leader discussed search plans with the police and subsequently deployed the team. As such some of our members who were at the Spine event departed and left just a couple to manage whilst the bulk of the team met with other volunteers who went directly to the RV point to start searching.
The team conducted a search of parkland and was in the process of moving to a second search area in the fading light when the DTL received the news that the missing person had been located.
With information that the extraction may not be so simple to get them to the ambulance, the team assisted the NWAS and Police crews with a short extraction from awkward undergrowth to get the casualty with the NWAS crew and onto further care.
A very fortunate result and we wish them a speedy recovery.
The team who were supporting the spine race returned back there for the remainder of their shift (until ~5 am) and a second crew is back there again for the second shift this evening too.
