CALLOUT 24 – Call to assist injured horse rider
August 8, 2022CALLOUT 26 – Call to assist mountain biker
August 9, 2022CALLOUT 25
Just as team members were finishing up with callout #24 (see the previous post) the team were contacted once again by the North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust (NWAS), this time to assist with a fallen climber at Troy Quarry, off Grane Road. (18:30 7/7/22)
Team vehicles departed as soon as able from the first incident and were joined by additional team members at the RV point.
Once again due to the potential seriousness of this type of incident the North West Air Ambulance Charity (NWAA) was also deployed and was landing on the scene as the first team members arrived at the RV.
The climber was treated by NWAS and NWAA medics, whilst the team sorted out a plan for extraction to the helicopter. The casualty was placed into our MIBS stretcher – a more compact stretcher narrower and thus a little easier to handle on this terrain – and carried approximately 500m to the air ambulance where he was flown to the hospital for further checks.
The team were able to stand down and return vehicles to base, and finally were on their way home by 20:30 – what transpired to be a busy Sunday evening!
We wish the casualty all the best and a speedy recovery, and would like to take a moment to say the helmet has possibly saved this gentleman’s life – should it not have been worn this could have easily been a very different callout for the team to deal with!
