CALLOUT 26 – Assisting with search for missing gentleman

This is a different report from our usual format.
Within the local area of Rossendale, there have been several social media reports of a dog stuck, poorly or possibly deceased below a cliff at a local walking spot near Jamestown Quarry.
A number of comments came out that the team hadn’t rescued the dog when we were nearby attending to a serious callout close by on Saturday.
We’re sorry ‘some’ felt we’d ignored the dog but be rest assured we simply hadn’t seen or been informed of a situation and quite rightly were concentrating on the callout emergency at the time, helimed and additional resources.
Some team members were beginning to read/hear rumours of the dog and shortly after on Tuesday afternoon, we were contacted by United Utilities to investigate if possible. With daylight dropping and the risk of loose rock fall our member’s safety is paramount so leadership collectively agreed to go to the scene today.
The team, together with a representative of United Utilities investigated and after abseiling down were sad to say the dog was deceased.
The team respectfully retrieved the dog to the clifftop where a member who’s also a veterinary manager took care of the dog from there and the necessary authorities were informed.
We must stress that there was no report of a missing dog locally fitting its description, and it was a very sad affair to see any animal in such a state.
As a rescue team, we take great pride in being a responsible and integral part of the community but we rely on the public often and appreciate these sorts of things are distressing but this being said we can’t investigate or rescue what we aren’t aware of.
We thank you all for your continued support as always.
