On Sunday afternoon (~12:50 7/7/24) the team were requested by the North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust (NWAS) to assist the North West Air Ambulance Charity (NWAA) crew who were already on the scene with an injured mountain biker in the woods just north of Edenfield, Rossendale.
Local team members were quickly on scene and met with the crews along with the casualty, before reporting back to our leaders the likely evacuation options from the steep woodland, approximately 100m of steep banking above the road access. More team members arrived at the location and upon arrival of the team vehicle, equipment was unloaded and taken to the casualty’s location to be able to evacuate them safely.
The casualty had been given pain relief as well as the injury splinted, so the team were able to place them onto one of our stretchers to then lower them on a rope system to safely evacuate from the woods. Once at the bottom of the woods, a short carry across the road to the awaiting ambulance and transferred to their stretcher for onward transportation to the hospital.
As always we wish the casualty a speedy recovery.
