RPMRT’s 2022 Summary
January 5, 2023CALLOUT 02 – Call to Assist Fallen Walker on Pendle
January 30, 2023CALLOUT 01
Yesterday (17/1/23) at around 15:10 the team was called out to a fallen walker on Pendle with suspected back and pelvic injuries.
Our team leader was called directly by the owner of the Cauldron Coffee Shop at the foot of the steps on Pendle Hill after being alerted to a walker that had a nasty fall on the steps which were thick with ice.
Mob 2 and 10 members responded after the alarm was raised. Paramedics in the team immediately shielded the walker from the elements and proceeded with a primary survey, followed by pain relief via IV morphine.
After assessment it was found to be a femoral trauma, so we proceeded to carefully package the casualty and stretcher carry her down to the local farm where we could continue observations and wait for the ambulance out of the freezing weather.
As the temperature drops after mid-afternoon, please take extra care to wear the right gear and maybe invest in some micro spikes to avoid slipping when ice is about.
We wish the lady a speedy recovery and hope it’s not put her off the beauty of Pendle Hill or Lancashire.
