December 9, 2022CALLOUT 40 – Call to assist NWAS is snowy conditions
December 10, 2022CALLOUT 39
At approximately 13:40 yesterday (8/12/22) the team was called out by Lancashire Police to reports of a 78 year old male having fallen on Pendle with a deformed ankle and getting cold.
Members were called out and Mobiles 1 and 2 responded to the Worston side of Pendle Hill and other members responded direct.
Conditions were bitterly cold and the ground frozen solid.
Two team casualty carers were sent ahead to locate and start treatment whilst other members prepared kit and made their way following soon after.
On locating the gentleman and his walking friend and after an initial assessment, it was clear his left ankle was quite deformed. Once the assessment was complete he was kept warm, sheltered from the cold, and continually assessed whilst we waited on North West Air Ambulance CharityNorthwest Air Ambulance for a speedy transfer to the hospital.
It must be said both walkers were well-equipped and knowledgeable and the ground conditions were somewhat severe for the time of year catching them out.
We all wish the gentleman a speedy recovery.
Once on board the helicopter the team packed away and came off the hill ready for the next job.
